Kicking it in Paris

LeSneaker heads of Europe exhibit in France

Sneakerness is the biggest Sneaker Convention in Europe, so I wasn’t going to pass on the chance to attend the Paris edition during Paris Design Week. The event was held at Les Docks which is one of the creative hubs of Paris in Cite de la mode et du Design over looking the Seine River.
Paris Design Week had been taking place from the 3rd to the 10th of September and although I wasn’t able to see any of the other activities, this was one of the main events to end off the week.

Being part of our own local Sneaker Exchange events I was quite interested to see how we compared and was pleasantly surprised to not only see the similarities between the two but also the potential for growth that we have in our own local execution, which is always a good thing. One of the big differences however was the vast amounts of brands that were on offer at the Sneakerness event in Paris. I saw brands I’d never heard of and some that I hadn’t seen in ages. I mean when was the last time you saw a pair of Diadora kicks?

Customisation was also a big theme at the event with a lot of collaborations with artists on show. The types of sneakers also being customised were on a different level. Peep out these Iron Man inspired Yeezy’s below. For those that are expecting little ones, you could also get knitted replicas of Nike Air Max to start of your laaities sneaker fetish. One of my other favourite items on show was the clip on roller skate wheels allowing you to turn any one of your sneakers into really cool skates.

As with our own events, sneaker accesories were also a popular showcase and one could event test out some sneaker cleaning materials live on the day while you wait.
The music was also really on point and Paris hip has always been on top of it’s game. The DJs did not disappoint playing that old school hip hop that I love so much. Made me think of wanting to bring back some of those Meiple events.

Fortunately for you, you don’t have to fly to Europe to get your hands on some of these spectacular kick. If you are a sneaker head look out for our own Sneaker Exchange events taking place on the 26th of September in Cape Town at Grand West and on the 5th Of October at The Sands in Joburg. You won’t be disappointed.
